“Let Me Go” by Infinite Wonders

Writing has always been a big part of my life as I have been passionate about reading and writing since I was little. When I was a kid, I always had a book or a notebook in my hand and spent all of my free time using them. I still am an avid reader and I love to write as much as I did when I was younger. Over the course of this semester, I had hoped to improve my writing overall and challenge myself with new ways to write. I feel that I have become a better writer this semester and I have learned to love new genres of writing such as poetry. I was hesitant about sharing my writing with the class and on my blog but after I started to, my confidence in my writing started to build.

I chose my poem “Let Me Go” because it reminds me of how much I have grown as a writer over the course of this semester. Before this semester, I only liked to read poetry and felt that there were too many rules with poetry. As I learned about the different types of poetry that there were, I began to realize that the rules didn’t mean anything and that I was able to express myself easily when writing poetry. It is now my favorite genre of writing to use because there are no limits to what you can write about and each poem has so much meaning, even if there aren’t many words in them. I like that each word in a poem means something and everyone who reads them can take so much away.

“Let Me Go”

Why must I be like this?

Dreaming an impossible dream,

Hoping for a broken wish.

I live out my days trying to redeem,

The broken heart that weighs down my soul

And I watch as tears fall down my face like a stream.

I try to make myself whole,

But something stops me

Maybe it’s my heart that someone stole.

And I wish for some hope with a plea,

My heartless mind begging to be let go,

Let go of me.

My eyes that used to be aglow,

With love and dreams and hope,

Are a gray nothing without you though.
